Online Guitar Lessons: Learn guitar from any where with an Internet Connection

Whether you’re a beginning guitar player, or been playing for several years. Online guitar lessons have something to offer you. Websites offering video based guitar lessons span from beginner to advanced lessons, and from acoustic to blues styles. Today I want to share with you how online guitar lesson sites work, how much it costs, and what you can expect to gain based on your current skill level.

Guitar Lessons Available to everyone everywhere: How does it Work?

Learning to play guitar, whether it be from a private instructor or online is a visual process; especially if you’re a beginner. Guitar membership sites offering online guitar lessons have capitalized on the fact that millions of people have access to the Internet, and are using it successfully to broadcast video guitar lessons live to you without having to ship a single product.

No matter where you live, as long as you have an Internet connection you can learn to play the guitar over the Internet.

Advantages of Online Guitar lessons to you are:

  • They’re instant, and always available
  • No commuting to guitar lessons each week
  • Learn at your own pace
  • Only need an Internet connection

Most online guitar lesson sites are a subscription member based service. This means you pay a monthly fee to have access to the websites lesson database. After logging in you can watch and learn as many lessons as you want each month. You can cancel any time, and learn at your own pace.

The two video lesson websites I have been a member of had superb video quality, and a very large selection of lessons to choose from. Lessons covered basic guitar techniques and theory up to advanced soloing and scale lessons.

What Can you learn?

Beginners
As a beginner you’ll gain access to literally hundreds of lessons. You can pick and choose what and when you learn. There is no pressure to practice or progress at a certain speed since you’re in charge of your progress. You can learn as quickly or slowly as you want.

It’s also up to you how you want to learn. If you’re interested in learning to read music, and become a very technical guitar player all the lessons you’ll need will be there. In contrast is you just want to focus on learning chords and reading guitar tabs, you can do this to. You can tailor you’re learning style to your guitar playing goals.

Intermediate
Because there is so much content available in online guitar lesson sites there will be a lot of technical and advanced techniques you can work on. You can skip over all of the basic information you already understand, and only focus on what you need to learn.

The draw back of some home study guitar courses is that you have to go through all of the basic foundation lessons before you can get into the intermediate and advanced lessons. This isn’t the case with online guitar lessons.

Recreational Players
If you’re only concern is learning to play your favorite songs off the radio then all you need is a primer in guitar basics, and playing chords. You can skip over a lot of the theory or music reading lessons and get right into playing major and minor chords as well as tablature.

Once you’ve mastered reading guitar tab you probably will have all the knowledge needed to start playing those top 40 tunes you hear on the radio.

JamPlay has an excellent section on learning Guitar tab, and in my opinion will get you up to playing speed faster then any other online guitar lessons website.

Recommendations

So you know how guitar lessons are offered online, you understand what they have to offer depending on your skill level. The last question is where can you find some online guitar lessons to take?

I’ve used two different membership sites, each suits a different style of guitar player.

JamPlay.com is strictly a guitar learning website. They offer several hundred lessons from a variety of instructors. Each instructor has their own area of expertise and that is what they teach. JamPlay is a good bet for guitar players of any level.

WorkShopLive is a very extensive online database of music lessons from conservatory level instructors. Their only focus is not only guitar lessons, but also bass, drum and keyboard. Because the instructors come from a very technical background you’ll find that they offer a lot more in the way of technical and theory based lessons.

WorkShopLive is best suited for guitar players who want to become a well versed player, as well as intermediate and advanced guitarists looking to sharpen their skills. How ever if you consider yourself to be a recreational player I’d suggest that this site is just to in depth for what you need. Check out JamPlay instead.
