This article will outline the benefits, disadvantages, and some suggestions of where to learn to play the guitar online.

Why wouldn’t you want to learn online?

I’ll admit online guitar lessons might not be for you. Some people still enjoy learning face-to-face with an instructor. The disadvantages of learning how to play the guitar online is that you need to have an Internet connection to view the videos, and the time to load each video can vary depending on how fast your connection is.

If you’re patient then this won’t bother you, but if you like to have things happen instantly then you might not want to learn to play guitar online.

The benefits of Online guitar lessons

If you want to learn to play guitar online a big benefit is the freedom you’ll have of when and where you watch your lessons. I know for me something I hated when taking private lessons was rushing off when I got home from work to my lesson each week.

Along with the freedom aspect when you learn how to play the guitar online you’ll save money in comparison to taking offline guitar lessons. Also you’ll have the chance to review previous lessons if you need a refresher. When you’re taking guitar lessons offline and paying for every minute you’re in front of the instructor you don’t want to waste any time on things you’ve already learned.

What to look for when taking Online Guitar Lessons

There are several websites popping up that are offering guitar lessons online. How ever with this in mind you don’t want to learn to play the guitar online from just any website. It’s important that you understand how many lessons they offer, how the content is structured, and who their instructors are.

From my experience you want to look for a site that has enough lesson content that you can continue learning for at least a year if you’re a beginner, or they have the particular online guitar lessons you’re looking for if you’re an intermediate player.

Where to take online guitar lessons

My first choice for online guitar lessons is JamPlay.com. They have six instructors who each have a particular area of specialty, and over 5200 minutes of guitar lesson content.
